The International Foundation
Mikis Theodorakis »FILIKI« was founded in 1983
in Luxembourg. Its
aims are:
to set up a documentation centre where those doing serious research
on MikisTheodorakis, his personality and his artistic creation,
can find the documents, plays, scores and recordings they need
to study in connection with their work;
to promote Mikis Theodorakis' musical and literary work, by publishing
his writings and making recordings of his music, and by popularizing
his music, as well as his theoretical works and poetry;
|
in the long term, to put Theodorakis' ideas into practice, particularly
in relation to the creation of an Academy for popular and folk music.
So far, the Foundation :
has published
the first three volumes of Mikis Theodorakis' autobiography (in
German);
has edited Theoorakis' important theoretical writings (in
German);
gave technical advice and assistance to Vivien Treuleben in the making
of her superb documentary film : »Mikis Theodorakis. A voice for
freedom« (shown on ARTE, on 29 July 1995, for the composer's 70th
birthday);
promoted the publication of Guy Wagner's biography in German
and in French;
organised concerts, seminars and talks about Theodorakis and participated
at such events;
has set up a small network of »filikists«, who keep in close
touch with one another;
has published in 2001 the poetic work of Mikis Theodorakis in French
and German;
will participate at the CD-publishing of the opera: »Kostas
Karyotakis. Die Metamorphosen des Dionysos« (chamber orchestra
version by Henning Schmiedt).
We would like to make one thing clear : »"Filiki«
is not a fan-club.
The association does not sell gadgets like pins or tee-shirts
and is not an address for passing on requests for autographs and fan-mail.
Scores, copies of private recordings or records no longer available
in the shops and video-films will only be made available to those engaged
in serious research into Mikis Theodorakis or Greece.
